Transgender Resources

The Transgender Committee in ALGBTIC (Association for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues in Counseling) is one of the premier resources for transgender concerns within ACA. The Transgender Committee is comprised of clinical practitioners, educators, and transgender people who are working together to provide an understanding of the unique social, political, and counseling needs of transgender people within and served by our profession. We are working closely with the ALGBTIC Executive Board to ensure that our division develops a strong advocacy and educational voice on transgender concerns, as well as to ensure that our division adds the "T" in a meaningful way to our division's name.

Thus far, we have coordinated efforts via email and telephone conversations to determine how each member wishes to contribute and what unique strengths each one brings to the challenge laid out before us as counseling professionals in working with transgender people. Current projects of the Transgender Committee are: writing articles on transgender concerns, developing and implementing a series of Transgender-related competences for use in counseling services with transgender clients, developing programming on transgender issues, and working with the ALGBTIC board to create a trans-positive space in our division.

We are constantly looking for individuals to help with our committee's work. Please email Theodore Burnes at burnes@gse.upenn.edu if you are interested in working with this committee.
