Transgender Resources
I would like to proudly announce the
formation of the Transgender Committee in ALGBTIC
(Association for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender
Issues in Counseling). The Transgender Committee
is comprised of clinical practitioners, dedicated
educators, and transgender people who are working
together to provide an understanding of the unique
social and counseling needs of transgender people
within our profession. We are working closely with
the ALGBTIC Board to ensure that our division develops
a strong advocacy and education voice on transgender
concerns, as well as to ensure that our division
adds the “T” in
a meaningful way to our division’s name.
This far, we have coordinated efforts via email
and telephone conversations to determine how each
member wishes to contribute and what unique strengths
each one brings to the challenge laid out before
us as counseling professionals in working with transgender
people. Current projects of the Transgender Committee
are: writing articles on transgender concerns, developing
programming on transgender issues, and working with
the ALGBTIC board to create a trans-positive space
in our division.
To date, we have achieved an agreement from four
committee members (Julia Hosea, Don Sidelinker, Denise
Pickering, Manivong Ratts) to devote one hour of
time to conference calls every 1-2 months, in addition
to working on individual projects between conference
call meetings. Please email Anneliese Singh at nanakikaur@yahoo.com if
you are interested in working with this committee.
