ALGBTIC JOURNAL EDITOR

Job Duties and Description

The role of the Editor of the ALGBTIC Journal is first and foremost one that assumes responsibility for the successful publication of a scholarly journal that represents the interests and mission of the Association for Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Issues in Counseling. Duties of the Editor include, but may not be limited to the following:

  1. Responsible for the content of the journal in all issues, namely that it reflects the mission and focus of the Association for Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Issues in Counseling.
  2. Responsible as the communication link between the ALGBTIC Board and the publisher of the journal.
  3. Responsible for filling all editorial board positions as they become vacant with an eye towards insuring that the editorial board is representative of a diversity of interests within the counseling field as they relate to GLBT issues. All editorial board positions serve three year terms, and may be extended upon the recommendation of the Editor, and with approval by the board.
  4. Responsible for recommending termination of any editorial board member contract for non performance of duties. Such recommendations will follow any guidelines set by the ALGBTIC By-Laws.
  5. Responsible for insuring that calls for papers are done in a timely and effective manner such that the editorial board receives quality submissions.
  6. Responsible for identifying the appropriate editorial board members to complete blind reviews of submitted papers, and will request a clearly articulated timeline for reviews to be completed.
  7. Responsible for insuring that all submissions will receive a professional, blind review process and that persons submitting papers for review will receive clear and professional feedback in a timely manner.
  8. Will provide suggestions/recommendations to the ALGBTIC Board regarding any special editions of the journal for comment and approval.


The Editor of the ALGBTIC Journal:

  1. Is appointed by the ALGBTIC Board, and is directly responsible to the Board.
  2. Communication between the Editor and the board is done through the ALGBTIC President.
  3. Is approved by the board for a three year term of office, subject to extension into multiple terms as the board sees fit.
  4. May or may not be a current member of the ALGBTIC board. If a member, that any potential conflicts of interest are clearly identified and considered, and where appropriate, alternative processes are delineated.
  5. Subject to termination at the behest of the board if it is deemed reasonable and appropriate due to non performance of stated duties. Any non-voluntary termination of the Journal Editor position will follow appropriate protocols as outlined in the ALGBTIC By-Laws.
